Veracruz is simply incomparable. It is home to a great concentration of attractions, from historic sites and traditional festivities, to beaches and natural sites which are visited by many each year. Veracruz stands out with its golden sunsets and crisp, cool nights which illuminate its foggy streets and historic alleyways. Veracruz is home to relaxing and friendly regions, offering magnificent examples of colonial architecture, like its Historic Downtown, where you can find buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. This is a great destination if you are looking for the perfect balance between natural tranquility and the bustle of modernity. Its rivers, beaches, mangroves, and coral reefs make up the state’s truly awesome natural riches. This state is also home to many modern convention centers which serve as seats for many important events.

Veracruz City. Founded in April 22, 1519 by conquistador Hernán Cortés, La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz is the first city to be founded by Europeans in the Americas. It is here where the famous Feast of the Carnival of Veracruz, considered by many as the most joyous festivity in the world, takes place. You can also experience Easter, the Tournament of Sábalo de Plata, the Friends of Galveston Regatta, the December Feasts, or El Viejo. A good time is inevitable! Between the Cofre de Perote, a beautiful extinct volcano, and the coastal plains of the state is its capital, Xalapa. This is a vibrant and colorful city, with stunning monuments in its Historic Downtown, like its Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Government Palace. Walk its charming cobbled alleyways; the Jesús Te Ampare alley and the Alley of the Star are particularly pretty. Near the foothills of the Citlaltépetl, the third highest mountain in North America, you will find the city of Córdoba. Witness the silent procession during Easter, or the procession of the Apostle Santiago Patron of Spain, in July. Each year in August there is a celebration offering a variety of activities, artistic and cultural, to commemorate the signing of the Córdoba Treaties. Another unmissable celebration is the one done in honor of the Immaculate Conception, on December 8. At the mouth of the Tuxpan river is a city by the same name. It is located in the region known as the Lower Huasteca, and in it you can find its cathedral the Juárez Park, or the promenade on the river, where people wind down and have fun in the water. This lovely city is only 11 km (7 mi) from beautiful beaches. We also recommend visiting the Coatzacoalcos municipality, where each year you can take part in many diverse feasts and cultural events. Among them are the Carnival in February, and the Expo Feria of Coatzacoalcos in April, one of the most visited in the southeast of Mexico. During October and November there is a week dedicated to the Mosaic of Cultures Festival, where the chief objective is to highlight the tolerance and diversity, deeply-rooted characteristics of Coatzacoalcos.
