“Los Caminos del Mezcal,” (“The Route of Mezcal”) a route offering the opportunity of experiencing the entire process devoted to making mezcal, from the agave plantations to its bottling and, of course, its sampling alongside the perfect pairing: Oaxacan food, recognized globally for its cultural value, variety of ingredients, and sophisticated techniques of preparation. These are the places to visit along the route: Santa María del Tule, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya, Teotitlán del Valle, Tlacolula de Matamoros, San Pablo Villa de Mitla (Magical Town), Santiago Matatlán. Puerto Escondido offers adventure and fun, which await you in this picturesque corner of the Mexican Pacific coast, known as the Emerald Coast for the crystalline tones of its waters in beautiful contrast with the white sand of its beaches. Each year, in the months of August and November, an international surfing tournament takes place in Zicatela Beach, considered as the third best in the world for this sport. In November you can visit the Coastal Festival of Dance, which showcases the traditional dances of the region. Each year, visitors can witness these majestic creatures, as large as 16 meters (52 feet), and with a weight around 3 tons. A unique attraction for ecotourism in Oaxaca is the sea turtle sanctuaries. You can observe the beautiful olive ridley sea turtle arrive at the Escobilla Sanctuary from July to December. A central hub from ancestral times for all the cultures that live in the state, with archaeological sites, like Mitla and Monte Albán, Oaxaca invites you to become a part of its wonderful festivals throughout the year: Easter; the Guelaguetza in July; the festivals of Seven Moles, the Tejate, and the Tamal; or the Day of the Dead, with its rich traditional cuisine; and many more.
